Running Contacts

duration
6 lessons, 12 weeks of feedback + 2 weeks of a break in between
requirements
- minimal age: 7 months
- minimal equipment: a mat to start with (and then access to dog-walk later on) and RC DVD
- minimal space: 15 m
- all levels welcome

July Running Contacts class, starting on July 25, is now open for registration! Most work is done with no equipment and just a mat: working on turns, soft turns, straight exits, and various handling before any DW work, so you don't need much room to start off.

Here are some graduation videos of dogs from the previous classes. I chose different sizes and only those who started from zero so you can see how far  they got in less than 4 months:

The class is appropriate for total beginners (from 7 months old on), retrains from 2on2off and all who have running contacts already (even if not trained with a mat), but want to work on various exits or any other aspect of RC - all the feedback is completely individual, so all levels are welcome. I will also publish all the lessons right at the start of the class, so you can continue from wherever you currently are.

Minimum age for this class is 7 months and the minimum equipment is now just the DVD + a mat - like a towel or a doormat - and later on occasional access to a dog-walk, ideally one that can be lowered.

This class is 12 weeks long (+2 weeks of a catch up break in between) and starts on July 25, but you can register already now and then enter the classroom HERE.

Please note that only those who took this class with the SAME dog before qualify as repeaters!

Please make sure your are registered and logged in before you proceed to paying with paypal - this will ensure you will get your correct access automatically.
participant (includes a RC video download link) - 320 EUR / cca 350 USD

in case you already have the DVD, choose this participant option - 280 EUR / cca 306 USD

auditor/repeater/2nd dog - 240 EUR / cca  260 USD (DVD is not required for auditors, but is highly recommended)

Hello Silvia. I had a question about the next class. I want to be sure. I have two dogs. Border Collie -- 6, 5 years and a small schnauzer 2, 5 year. If I’m in the next class, the price for two dogs were thus twice? or not?
And you think you can teach a dog in 6.5 years running contacts ? I still believe, but I need expert comments from you, obviously, so I would like to join the next class. 🙂 Thank you for answer.

If you want to send videos of both dogs, then you pay once full price and for 2nd dog, lower 2nd dog/repeater price. And of course, it’s possible to retrain, it’s never too old to learn!

    Hi Sylvia
When registration opens, do we buy the DVD at that time or should/can I buy it now and watch it in advance of the class starting?
Also, I wanted to start looking for carpet to buy (I’ve watched the second puppy diaries and see you are using carpet initially when teaching To). -- what length and width of carpet should I buy?

It’s whatever you prefer -- you can get it before already of course. The carpet should be at least as long as DW plank and about double width.

So the total cost of the RC that Make you Smile class is 150 us and that includes the video?

    • LoLaBu October 6, 2015 at 15:45 Log in to Reply

No, this is the price for auditing past class. Participant price is 180e if you have the video already and 220e if you don’t.

Are you going to incorporate the method you used for To in the Dec RC class ?

    • LoLaBu November 10, 2015 at 10:02 Log in to Reply

You mean with weaves? I always tell people to do so, even before I did it with To -- some listen and some don’t 🙂

    Hi Silvia,

I’d like to start with my second attempt RC with Nanou,He is fully recovering from his knee injury,
I have in the meantime the lessons let’s play and let’s play agility at Polona followed, starting next week let’s play agility repeater,
Nanou is running well , but only 2 times small straight line’s he can not stand pressure, or diff training ex. then he shut down.
Therefore, I must still find a schedule that works for him due to the RC and the agility classes, (twice a week) I think all lessons at the dog school should happen ? and I do not want every day with Nanou train

    Thanks,

RC are great for dogs who need more speed and motivation! I’m sure it will help with his general drive! But yes, of course you don’t want to train every day!

Another question from me about the RC class 😉
Since the class is precisly in our winter time, I’m getting more and more in doubt if I will be able to train it 🙁 But I don’t want to wait untill next one, really would like as much as possible now 🙂 So is it also possible to register as auditer, and when I find an solution to be able to train than switch to participant? (ofcourse paying the remain 60 euro’s). It would be too bad if I join as participant but won’t be able to train during the whole clas…

correction on a sentense: *really would like to know as much as possible now

Hi Silvia! Quick question about the RC class…how many times per week should the dog be trained using the plank? I don’t have a lot of room at my house and my yard is already covered in snow so I will have to go to our local agility facility to train…I can only do this twice per week tops so I’m just trying to figure out if that would be enough or if I should wait until I have more regular (daily) access…please advise.

    Thanks so much!!!

    • LoLaBu November 23, 2015 at 21:19 Log in to Reply

Training-wise, it doesn’t really matter -- no problem to do it only twice a week. But of course, you will be progressing a bit slower that way and won’t be able to do everything in those 15 weeks of the class, so… On you to decide.

How much for 1 dog? And how much for 2 dogs? Thank you 🙂

Also, I know you use toys for RC? Could I do RC with getting him to fetch the toy and bring it back to me for a treat or not? Thanks 🙂

      • LoLaBu November 23, 2015 at 21:22 Log in to Reply

Yes of course, that works just as well!
