Foundations Class

duration
6 lessons, one every 2 weeks
= 12 weeks of feedback + 2 weeks of a break in between
requirements
-minimal age: 7 months
- minimal equipment needed: 4 jumps, 2 tunnels, Foundations Revisited DVD, channel and see-saw (if working on weaves&see-saw as well)
- appropriate for all levels, total beginners to experienced dogs who could use better turns, more independence or speed

Good news for all, impatiently awaiting this super fun class! The classroom is now open - we're starting on April 20!

The class follows Foundations Revisited DVD. This is why the format has been changed from the original Foundations Fun class program:

  1. Ta taught me the importance of pre-obstacle work, so working on really very basic ground skills that make all the rest go way more smoothly... - so lesson 1 is all away from obstacles now.
  2. I couldn't stand people redoing sequences over&over again even when I kept saying not to do it... So now sequences are only in lesson 6, the rest are various exercises with lots of variations to make sure people are training, not pattering their dogs.
  3. My tunnels are sooo terribly bagged in the old DVD!!! So I had to make a new one with properly bagged tunnels! 🙂

What is different is the order, the emphasis, and the exercises and I also added some new topics, so the transition to Xtreme Foundations should be super smooth - this class certainly doesn't lack in providing MANY challenges. And definitely covers many topics!

Fundations Revisited DVD trailer

This class is appropriate for all levels, from total beginners from 7 months on - and also for experienced agility dogs - I promise to keep everybody challenged!!! All feedback completely individual.

Minimum equipment needed: 2 tunnels, 4 jumps and if you want to work on see-saw and weaves as well: see-saw and stick to the ground and/or channel weaves (ideally both!). + Foundations Revisited DVD of course.

Topics covered: play, fetching, static toys, stays, restrains, warm ups and cool downs, tight turns, sends, pushes, threadles and serpentines, come to hand, verbal discrimination, obstacle discrimination, tunnel sends, traps and turns (hard and soft turns), extension and collection, different crosses and handling, see-saw, weaves, tire, long, double and wall jump, how to choose sequences and adjust them to your dog, how to handle mistakes and more.

We'll be starting with the first homework on April 20, but you can register and enter the classroom already now.

    Hi Silvia,

    I have a question,
I would like to register for the new Foundation class, but I am not sure if it is good for Nanou , when I see the preview ‘example of the wraps’ at this point Nanou will freeze after nr 3, he does not like to go back were he come from, he can/will run max 3 straight lines of 2 or 3 jumps, the longest training which I have to get him a reasonable rate is two sessions of tunnel / jump / jump / jump / tunnel, with a break in between
    Thanks

You mean he can’t do 3 wraps in a row or he freezes already when you want to do just one? In any case, you can of course join and we’ll try to work through it as we need to get past that anyway? Also, it would be great to start RC with a wrap as he loves RC, so it would be great to make connection wrap-RC…

I have the feeling it is time for Foundation 🙂
we’ll see how far we get,
I do the wraps with the low seesaw, he loves the seesaw, although he is doing it cautiously 🙂 is he a pyreneen ?!the stories about them, beating just not quite with Nanou,
love to see you in clsss,

Hi Silvia! I have the coordination/balance tricks DVD and in it you mention something along the lines of these tricks are the ones that are a requirement for your foundations class. Which tricks did you mean? Since I was planning on taking the next foundations class, I wanted to make sure we practiced them regularly. Thanks!

It’s not something I would check in class, but with my puppies, I want them started on most of the trick from that DVD before asking them to do any agility, to make sure they are physically prepared for demands of agility.

Omg we have to join this class with Coco to gain more speed and get past motivation issues!

    • LoLaBu April 8, 2016 at 16:08 Log in to Reply

Yes, I think it’s a really cool class -- that covers so many topics that we can keep all the different levels busy!

How do I pay partially with a gift certificate?

    • LoLaBu May 1, 2016 at 12:12 Log in to Reply

You can just go to “buy a gift certificate” and write in whatever amount you want. And then the person who gets it, can go to register to the class and right before paying, there is an option to write in a code of a gift certificate.
