Foundations Class

duration
6 lessons, one every 2 weeks
= 12 weeks of feedback + 2 weeks of a break in between
requirements
-minimal age: 7 months
- minimal equipment needed: 4 jumps, 2 tunnels, Foundations Revisited DVD, channel and see-saw (if working on weaves&see-saw as well)
- appropriate for all levels, total beginners to experienced dogs who could use better turns, more independence or speed

The class follows Foundations Revisited DVD. This is why the format has been changed after the original Foundations Fun format:

  1. Ta taught me the importance of pre-obstacle work, so working on really very basic ground skills that make all the rest go way more smoothly... - so lesson 1 is all away from obstacles now.
  2. I couldn't stand people redoing sequences over&over again even when I kept saying not to do it... So now sequences are only in lesson 6, the rest are various exercises with lots of variations to make sure people are training, not pattering their dogs.
  3. My tunnels are sooo terribly bagged in the old DVD!!! So I had to make a new one with properly bagged tunnels! 🙂

What is different is the order, the emphasis, and the exercises and I also added some new topics, so the transition to Xtreme Foundations should be super smooth - this class certainly doesn't lack in providing MANY challenges. And definitely covers many topics!

Fundations Revisited DVD trailer

This class is appropriate for all levels, from total beginners from 7 months on - and also for experienced agility dogs - I promise to keep everybody challenged!!! All feedback completely individual.

Minimum equipment needed: 2 tunnels, 4 jumps and if you want to work on see-saw and weaves as well: see-saw and stick to the ground and/or channel weaves (ideally both!). + Foundations Revisited DVD of course.

Topics covered: play, fetching, static toys, stays, restrains, warm ups and cool downs, tight turns, sends, pushes, threadles and serpentines, come to hand, verbal discrimination, obstacle discrimination, tunnel sends, traps and turns (hard and soft turns), extension and collection, different crosses and handling, see-saw, weaves, tire, long, double and wall jump, how to choose sequences and adjust them to your dog, how to handle mistakes and more.

Next class starts on April 20, so check back for registration on April 5th.

Some graduation videos examples:

Hi Silvia! When do you plan to run this class again (not this session beginning in August)?

    • LoLaBu August 4, 2015 at 19:26 Log in to Reply

      Probably in April.

Silvia, my new guy will just be 6 months on Sunday. I know that when I took the class the first time with Spur she was about a month older and we ended up repeating the class the next time it was offered. Do you think we will be okay to participate? I can send you a bit of video of him if you like. He is a Working Bearded Collie which is basically 75% Bearded Collie and 25% Border Collie.

    Thanks,
    Mary

Awww, I LOVE working Beardies!!! -- Looking forward to meet him! The class program is so intense it’s hard to master it all within one class that way or another, regardless of age of the dog. That’s why many people take it twice, some start on their own and finish up in the class and some start in a class and finish up themselves… -- all of that works, so it’s whatever you prefer… If he knows a send to a wrap, I would probably just join now, I think it’s pretty easy to finish things up when the base is there.

Great. We will sign up. He can do a send to a wrap (most of the time. He still cues a lot off my motion, but that’s me not him). We look forward to the class.

Is it too late to join this class if it is not already full?

    • LoLaBu August 25, 2015 at 19:56 Log in to Reply

      You can still join!

Hi! Is this still open for registration for auditors? (I’m assuming closed for participants??). How long is everything accessible after the course officially ends? Thanks…got a wonderful 15mth old BC that is begging for his mom to get some help training him (-:

    • LoLaBu September 17, 2015 at 07:57 Log in to Reply

Yes, you ca still register -- also as participant if you want. You keep access to all material for ever, just posting won’t be possible anymore after NOvember 22.

    Hi Silvia,
I can still enter this classroom as i read above. But since it’s half october is it still worthwhile or better wait for a new class? I do own the foundation dvd and can practice on that for now.

    • LoLaBu October 14, 2015 at 21:53 Log in to Reply

At this point, you missed so many weeks of feedback that it’s better to wait till next one yes… -- or alternatively, join as an auditor, ask questions you have about the program and work through material on your own also after the class finishes.

To bad I’m to late, at the point it started my dog was with a lower back injury. Now she is fine. Took a while 🙁 But i have the foundation dvd and going to do as well as i can and join the next foundation class 🙂 I have seen very great results from this and would be really happy if I can learn my dog agility as this is so awesome :p

Glad that she is o.k. now! And yes, good Foundations make agility soooo much easier! And so much more fun for both dog and handler!

    Hi Silvia
I know that foundations class will start on march
I watched your DVD and it’s very interesting!!!!
Is the class only for dogs who start now to play agility or also for dogs who already know agility obstacles and they just jumping tight?
I meant if in my case I will sign as begginers (like RC classe) or advanced?
Nikita hasn’t finisched see-saw and Waves but she jumps
very tight at 55cm in curses of about 15-20 obstacles (jumps tunnels and 2on2off DW).
    Thank you!

    • LoLaBu January 5, 2016 at 14:16 Log in to Reply

It’s for anybody who still sees room for improvement on any of the topics covered 🙂 -- We had dogs running World Championships in that class as well 🙂

Great! When can I register also in foundation class? Can you tell me which are the skills that make the difference between “beginners” and “advanced” in this class? In my case what is better? I went to AWC in Bologna but only as a viewer!!! :-)…I’m not a champion!
Another question: after my actual RC class and next foundation class I’d like to attend your next seminar. Is it possible?
    Thank you very much!!

Registration will open mid-February. That class only has “Students” section + “Repeaters” for those who took that class before.

For camps, I can’t promise anything, I don’t know when I’ll do them next… The ones who took most classes have advantage in getting the spots.

Are you still taking repeaters? Or is that closed?

    • LoLaBu February 10, 2016 at 01:47 Log in to Reply

This is still for past class and only open for auditors. 2016 class is moved to May, so registration will open in April.
