OMG!

puppies!, To

I'm still in a denial stage, but I guess ultrasound doesn't lie and we might need great homes for 7 lovely mixes... If they take any after their mother, they will be extremely smart, extremely cuddly and super talented for agility. If they take after their father, they will be smart, determined, unstoppable, sneaky, fast and do-ers.

To start the story at the beginning... So, after her last heat, To got rather careful, calm and slow(er). And really fat, so I first tried to get some weight off... And then realized she must have false pregnancy... So I was waiting for it to pass and actually stopped doing agility as she was just too fat to run... - but as she was just getting fatter&fatter, I took her to the vet with me when Le had tooth extraction and told them To has really bad false pregnancy and what to do about it. But hm, well, as usually, it turned out I'm wrong and To is right...

She seems very proud of herself and is taking a good care of her huge belly, so I think she will make a good mum. The puppies should be born between February 10 and 15. We're not sure who the father is - most likely a local mix that looks a bit like smooth PyrShep x Toller mix (but isn't of course) of about 47cm.

I've had unspayed females for 19 years and never understood how something like this can happen, but well, I guess I know now... - She was alone in the (fenced) yard for max. 5min...

Anyway, I'm still in shock and need some time to digest this, but I guess I have some trials to cancel and probably also some on line classes to move to later dates, so... Will let you know more once I regroup and accept To has a tiny bit different plans as I did...

I guess it won't be all that peaceful much longer:

Wow, that’s crazy news! Congratulations?!?! I’m sure you will enjoy the whole experience once the puppies arrive. They say everything happens for a reason… ๐Ÿ™‚

WOW! That is a bit scary but exciting too! Your house is about to get a whole lot cuter!!! Sounds like To will make a wonderful mom. You are a great teacher of taking things in stride and making the best out of all sorts of situations and circumstances. I am sure you will learn so much and teach us just as much through this new experience. Wishing you and To a healthy, and easy pregnancy and delivery!

Yeah, I’m sure it will be fun once they’re out… But at the moment, I’m just too worried she will explode or something, can’t imagine she will get even bigger as she is!

Scary but wonderful! One thing is for sure, Silvia, you will turn this into a positive ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh my! It’s too bad I am so far away from you , I would love to have a girl puppy . I love Keen , but I miss working with a female . I’m sure you will find great homes for them . Are you thinking of keeping any ?

No, not really -- at least not yet ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t want to end with too many dogs (4-5 seems to be my maximum of being able to give them enough individual attention) and since I really love to run World Championships and I need pedigree for that, I would prefer a pedigree dog for my next dog…

I totally understand . 1-2 dogs seems to be all I can handle , so I am amazed at how great a job you do with your 4-5! Best wishes for a safe and smooth whelping !

Look from this sight You have managed 19 years of no UPS! You do deserve congrats for that! I wish To all the best with her pregnancy and delivering pups. And please do update with some cute puppy video and photos! I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

Haha, sorry I am laughing! I could say “welcome to the unexpected mothers club”, as mid december, I took a rescue foster dog from a French shelter and 10 days later, she delivered 3 puppies on Christmas Eve ๐Ÿ˜€ Enjoy the first 4 weeks when they are still sweet and sleep a lot -- I am not in week 5 and they have mutated to little terrorists. And I have only three of them ๐Ÿ˜€ And buy a lot of incontinence pads -- you will need them. Thought I would be fine with 50 pcs 60x90cm -- I needed only a few in the first weeks, now 6-8 per day and still a LOT of cleaning to do ๐Ÿ˜€ Urgently waiting for the next 100 pcs pack tomorrow.

Wow, that’s was quite a surprise package! ๐Ÿ™‚ And thanks, I think you just helped me see I really do need to cancel March Foundations class! And I’m sure happy that it should be warm enough by then that I can have them outside a lot once they reach that age!

Oh no Silvia, not the foundations class ๐Ÿ™ My puppy just reached the minimum age for the class and we are so looking forward to working with you!

If she is that young, then it’s no problem if we start a month or two later! ๐Ÿ™‚

A month or two is GREAT! I was worried you might postpone until the fall! Awesome ๐Ÿ™‚

How about “ruลกa” oz “trava”. Something like grass for pups? I know Anja Troha used it and some other breeders too. http://www.pesjanar.si/forum/index.php?topic=11563.0

      • LoLaBu January 25, 2016 at 13:26 Log in to Reply

Yes, I plan to use it for the in between time when they’re too small to be outside and big enough to go to the grass.

OH my! That naughty girl!! Well, it’s another opportunity to learn, I think. And I am sure To’s pups will be wonderful … just wonder what they will look like. Post pictures! Good think I’m way to far away to be tempted.
