Announcing: long distance classes!

New LoLaBuLand project for 2011: long-distance classes!!! You can either participate or audit, all through this website, all on a special wish from those who live too far to come to classes. We'll do both puppy and handling classes, the plan is as follows:

For handling class:
I send a course map of a course we did in my handling class and then give you two weeks to set it, run it and send a video. Then we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different choices, I will also publish a video of my dogs on that course. After a week or two of discussion, I send another course and then you again have two weeks to set it and post a video. We'll do 4 courses, so the class will be about 3 months long.

For puppy class:
I write you a "to do" list, you ask if something is not clear, you start with your dog, tape it and send it, I comment, give suggestions on how to proceed etc. You get a new list every two weeks, taking old tricks further, checking the progress and starting with new stuff. We'll go through 6 "to do" lists, so this class will be 3 months long.

What do you think? Let me know how many of you would be interested in this. Those who want to participate in handling class need to have an access to equipment to set a course somewhere and a camcorder to tape it. To participate in puppy class, all you need is a dog (not even necessary a puppy!) and a camcorder. Those who want to audit don't need anything other than paying auditing fee and by this, you get an access to all the videos and comments and you're welcome to ask questions and participate in the discussion. The plan is to start end of February, but you're welcome to post your wishes and preferences.

Oh, and yes, we're getting fancier, that's the new look of our training DVDs:

i would be interested in doing the puppy class with my 2 year old dog.
he definitely could use more training. he is a rescue and it is a struggle to keep him focused and motivated.
    where do we sign up?

for the handling class what level does the dog need to be at,I have a very green young dog!
I would be interested in both classes! Sounds GREAT and like a lot of fun, and a great learning opportunity, thanks, Kathy

The courses for handling class will be challenging enough to be interesting also for more experienced dogs, but you can always break it in more parts or skip the parts that are too difficult.

I’m very pleased that you’re doing long distance classes! I thought I’ll never get the opportunity to take some classes from you. I’m very interested in both classes.

Is it possible to start any time you want? I mean not every dog arrives by the new owner at the same time. And it would be nice to start when the dog arrives instead for example after two months when a new class starts.

Are there also problem solving tips included how to learn de clicker to your dog? I’ve got one rescued dog at home at this moment and I can’t get him motivated for the clicker. While my other dogs are totally crazy about it. (The rescued dog has some social problems and a clicker would be very useful for that.)

Of course, the whole course will be about solving problems participants will report about -- or that I will detect in the videos! 🙂 All different problems are welcome, we can all learn from variety, that’s why I would like to have big enough group to discuss as many problems as possible 🙂

As this will be a class, not individual lesson, we will be starting only every 4 months or so. If somebody is expecting a puppy within this time, he can either audit -- or, if puppy is coming soon enough, participate and then start to post when the puppy is home (or, if he has another dog, start with the older dog and then switch to the puppy once the puppy is there).

Wow, he is just too cute! You can post questions in French, but no, I’ll be responding to all in English, so that everybody can understand and learn from others too, I think that’s very important.

it’s good for me. I read and understand English but do not know to write or speak.
if I can ask my questions in french and the answer in English is good.
    thank you

I’m also interested in puppy class. My Sheltie is 4 months old, and we have done a lot of the tricks from your videos and dvd’s. I would love to learn more 🙂

Looks like she already knows some of the tricks we’ll be working on 🙂 But that’s o.k., we’ll try to keep everybody busy.

What a great idea with long distance courses! I would love to participart in the handling class but don’t have access to course. I am therefore happy about the “audio” option!
