running contacts, students' videos

Just in case that you got scared off by my long trouble shooting sections in the RC video, here is a success story posted to December Running Contacts Classroom today:

I have to say how AMAZED i am with this training process. The video is SUPER. We are just 3 1/2 weeks in since downloading the video and starting and my boy has both a long stride and is a retrain from 2020. But we are smiling ALOT!!! He is having so much fun getting to open up and RUN!!! AT 23" tall he doesn't get to really open up a lot on course. He has figured out this DW game is about just that - running! already we are at 30" and he is offering different options with his striding. This is definitely the most fun I have ever had training contacts. 🙂
I am sure FedX's enthusiasm for running the DW is going to spill over onto the rest of the course too. This is how far we have come just on the video so I look forward to Silvia's guidance on the rest of the adventure.

FedX Session 31 2nd time 30 inches 13' and 15' and turned approach 18'

And the "before" video:

FedX DW Oct 2012

And I know I said it before, but I just LOVE my long-distance classes!!! - Making me smile every day 🙂

Great job Nicki&FedX!

She is! And it sure looks like a RC video requirement will make this class a real blast -- I should make it even cheaper as it looks like we’ll get perfectly trained dogs already! 🙂

Wow!! Just had to write to say Thanks!! Today was Fedx’s very first taste in his life of accelerating in sequence To the DW AND OFF the DW into a c tunnel. He’s had a bit of a struggle figuring out, as a retrain, that he can carry on to the next obstacle. So today we got there, without the tossed ball lure. This was at 36 inches. I think now, he totally gets what all this practice has been about!

Wow, he sure looks great! And better&better! 🙂 You’ll be finished with your DW project before the class even starts!!! 🙂

Oh no, I need your help now! I tried turning him once, (a flip) ugh. That set us back about 5 sessions 🙂 We just want to have fun running straight for awhile 🙂

Yes, I would wait some more with turns. You can add slightly angled exits, but no real turns for now. -- Or only on a plank, as a separate exercise.

Should I work in soft exits before adding height at this point?

    • LoLaBu December 4, 2012 at 23:26 Log in to Reply

It actually doesn’t matter -- whatever you prefer. I usually add a bit angle on exits, then add some height, next add more angle, then again height etc.

Great, will work at both bit by bit.
