Long-distance classes

Long-distance classes are meant for those who live too far to come to my normal classes and want to taste LoLaBu classes at least via internet, if not live. We’re offering puppy/tricks class, advanced tricks class, agility foundations, agility handling and running contacts classes. You can register bellow, each class has a participant and auditing option. The difference is that auditors don’t post their videos (but can ask questions and see all videos and discussions).

Puppy/Tricks class

is designed especially for future agility dogs as it promotes development of physical and mental skills, it helps puppies to learn how to learn, how to use their mind and bodies, builds very good body awareness, balance and strength. But it’s not only beneficial for puppies, but also active agility dogs or retired dogs to keep them busy, fit and young.

Every 14 days, you will get a new to-do list with things to teach, you get 6 lists in total, so this class is 3 months long. Participants will post videos (max. 5 minutes) of their training sessions and everybody is welcome to discuss the problems, I will also try to give some tips how to take it further.

Here are some videos of previous students to get better idea on what it is all about:

March class started on 27th of February, but because of many requests and the fact that the next class is only starting end of August, I decided to leave the registration to the March class open, meaning that you can register at any time, access the classroom and then post videos&questions for next 12 weeks. Next puppy class will only start on 27th August.

Please make sure your are registered and logged in before you proceed to paying with paypal -- this will ensure you will get your correct access automatically.

Agility Foundations

looks like my normal Agility Foundations class, only that you will get assignments in writing, then you will work at home, tape your sessions and post it in a classroom for us to see and comment. This class is meant for everybody enjoying our Puppy class, for everybody wanting to teach agility as just another trick and for all with experienced agility dogs who think there is never enough foundations or want to improve the dog’s turns. Our major focus will be teaching great cik&cap in order to get tight turns, great distance skills, sends and collection all at the same time, putting it in sequences to make it even more fun for the dogs and to practise some basic handling. We’ll also be addressing speed&motivation issues. Other than that, we’ll be starting with weaves, see-saw and contacts, but you can also work on just cik&cap and sequencing in case you don’t have those. For this class, you need at least 3 (even better 5) jumps and a tunnel or, even better, two. You’ll get 6 assignments, first three every 2 weeks, last three every 3 weeks, so this class is 15 weeks long.

March Foundation class started on 27th February, but you can still register as an auditor and then access the classroom, all the material will stay on line for quite a while (probably for ever :) ). Next Foundation class only starts in October.

Please make sure your are registered and logged in before you proceed to paying with paypal -- this will ensure you will get your correct access automatically.

Handling Class

is meant for those finishing Foundation class and everybody else who want to do some sequence/course work. You’ll be given 8 courses all together (2 on same set-up, every 3 weeks). The courses consists of all obstacles, but it’s no problem if you don’t have all or your dog can’t do them all just yet as you can always either break it in parts or exchange one obstacle for another. I’ll always give you two normal, about 20 obstacles courses, but break it down in shorter sequences for those who are just starting, so all levels are welcome. The courses we’ll run are those that I set for my own dogs and for my handling classes and there will always be a video of my dogs running those courses too.

Handling classes have an open registration and no time limitations, meaning that you can register at any point and post your videos whenever you want, no time limitations and you keep an access to all discussions and videos. Handling I and II have about the same difficulty of courses (but the courses are different), there is no continuation, so you can choose one or another.

Running Contacts Class

covers training running contacts from a scratch, but also those, further in the process are more than welcome to join, I’m sure we can fill some holes there might have been in the training so far. You will all be posting videos of wherever in a training process you are as I think most of our participants have already done some plank work. The purpose of the class is to address the whole process step by step, giving you immediate feedback to your videos and offer problem solving when needed.

You will get 5 to-do lists, one every three weeks, so this class goes on for 4 months (with 2-week break in between), so that’s enough time to get from a flat plank to a full dog-walk and also address the turns. To participate in this class, you need a plank (3.8m for FCI or 12 feet for US), enough room (minimally 10m for smaller dogs, 15m for BC size) and a video camera. At last steps, you will also need an access to full size dog-walk, let’s say at least two to three times a week (depending on how much in a hurry you are :) ). If you’re joining with a puppy, you will complete the process later on, but you’re welcome to start off the right way with us if your puppy is at least 5 months for smaller breeds or 6 for BC size.

To audit, you don’t need anything :) As an auditor, you see all the videos and comments and can ask questions, but only participants post videos and get feedback on their videos.

Next RC class is starting with 1st to-do list on 21st May (and will end by the end of September), but you can register and enter the classroom already now.

    Hey Silvia,
I audited the Running Contact class in August but I would like to sign up for the May class as a Participant. Will it be for the full price or 1/2 price?
    Thanks!,

Auditing qualifies you for a repeater, so it’s half price.

I have a boxer puppy 4 months old, she has been to the first puppy class and we are going to try to compete in agility. So I would like to participate in one or possibly more of your distance classes. Which long distance course would you recommend I start with? Agility Foundations, or running contacts? Do you think it would be too much to do both at the same time? I have an older boxer that I do agility with so I do have a little bit of skills in agility.

I think 4 months is too young for RC or Foundations, so I would actually recommend Puppy class to start with and maybe auditing either RC or Foundations to get a good picture of what to go for, start slowly and appropriately to his age on your own and then join as a participant in the next class (you have a half-price repeater option then) – that would be in October with Foundations and November with RC.

I am having so much fun (and also learnng a lot) in your Foundation class with Kinzi, so I was thinking of taking your Puppy/Tricks class with my other dog, Nim. But is it okay that Nim is not a puppy? He is 4 years old and I want to have more fun with him and learn how to play with him. Right now he will only play for 2-3 minutes and then go sniffing. Also, he is not doing agility. But I think your class is not just for agility dogs?

Can we register for the class now as participant or does it have to be auditor? It says that the next class starts in August but we can register now. So if we register now, do we start right away? Or do we start in June? And can we post until August?

    Thank you.

Sure, puppy class is appropriate for any dog, puppy or not, doing agility or not. It’s just about the tricks and fun :) Next class starts end of August, but instead of waiting till then, you can as well register as a participant of March class to start working right now and then you get to post for normal 12 weeks of a puppy class (after it already ends for original participants).

Just a quick question. I see the links to the previous classes, does this mean that those who audit or participate can review the progress, homework, etc of their class even after the class is completed?

I’m curious because I REALLY want to learn your cik/cap turns which I am also working on getting the DVD. I would LOVE to partictipate in a class but I can not figure out how to edit my videos and my internet upload/download limits are extremely tight so even if I were to audit I could not review many videos without going over my internet limitations. However if one could review the class material/progression even after the class has finished that would allow me to audit and be careful not to go over my internet limitations by reviewing the materials over a much greater length in time. If that is the case then this could be the answer I have been looking for :)

    Thank you!

    Hi Sylvia,
A couple of things….I have signed up for RC and paid full price but realize from previous posts that I should have paid half price as I have audited already. Is there any way to reimburse me?
Also, it says that you can access the classroom but I am only able to access this page. I think my user name is shelaghu.
    Thanks,
    S

Did you post this in the right place? I think you meant to post it under Lesson 2. I am not sure if everyone in the class will see this here.

    Hi Silvia,

I cannot seem to get any of the RSS feeds for my classrooms anymore. When I hit the ‘comments for this article’ or ‘subscribe to this feed’ a message comes up that it is restricted and I do not have access to it. I used to be able to get the messages, but not anymore.

Thank you and have a great time at the EO! Maia and I will be cheering for you!

Hm, yes, sorry… We’re waiting for the providers of this plug-in to fix a problem we have with RSS because of pages with limited access… I hope we hear back from them soon!
